Soil Resources (Part I) – Reverse Lecture

Dear Systems Students,

Once you have completed the reverse lecture: “Soil Resources (Part I)” on the course website (http://sites.lincoln.edu.gh/environmental-systems-society/home/lecture-notes/soil-resources-part-i-reverse-lecture), answer the questions below and add your questions and comments.

  1. How does soil formation relate to primary succession?
  2. Why is loam soil ideal for agriculture?  (See page 228 in your Course Companion)
  3. Topsoil erosion (the removal of the top layer of soil) is a serious problem that negatively impacts soil fertility.  Based on what you have read, why is topsoil so important for agriculture?

Remember: you are each others’ best teachers!  Think about the reading that you have done and the reverse lecture that you have gone through, answer the questions above, and add your thoughts here.

Good luck, and keep the great comments coming!
