Directions: Read the articles below about water scarcity and problems with global water resources.  Once you have read each article, answer the questions that follow in a Google Doc.  Make sure that you share the Doc with me and give me editing privileges.

Article 1: Why fresh water shortages will cause the next great global crisis

1. Identify how many people on Earth now do not have access to safe drinking water.
2. Explain why much of the land in Iran is becoming desert.
3. Explain what the infographic, “Water Stress and Climate Change” is showing.
4. Using the examples in the article, explain the potential political ramifications (effects) of water scarcity.

Article 2: Intensifying Calif. Drought Sets Off Alarms

1. Identify what “new alarms” are being set off by the California drought.
2. State how much time California has of water in its reservoirs.
3. Identify and explain at least five effects on California of the drought and water shortages.  These effects can be economic, political, social, and/or environmental.  In your explanation discuss why these effects are occurring and any numbers/statistics/data related to these effects.
