Remember that this forms the background of your knowledge of these substances, so make sure that you are writing all of the answers in your own words and that you ask if you have any questions. Acids, Alkalis and Neutralization – Higher
- State what an acid produces in water when it is dissolved. Be specific about the ions!
- State what an alkali produces when it dissolves in water. Be specific about the ions!
- Describe a neutralization reaction. Be very VERY specific about the reactants, the products and the ions involved. Make sure that you also describe what will be “left over” from the reaction.
- Explain the rule for naming salts. Where do the different parts of the name come from?
- Outline the process for making salts. Make sure that you include all of the steps of the process.
