Environmental Issues Student Lessons

Directions: For this assignment you are going to be presenting a lesson about an urgent environmental issue to the class.  You will be assigned an environmental issue from the list below, and you will need to create a 15 – 20 minute lesson with a partner looking at the causes, consequences and solutions for your environmental issue.  You will need to include an interactive activity for the class and a knowledge quiz at the end.

Your lesson will need to include the following:

  1. The causes of your environmental issue.
  2. The consequences for humans, other species, and the environment as a whole as a result of your environmental issue.
  3. Economic, social, and political issues surrounding your environmental issue.
  4. Current solutions that are being tried for your environmental issue AND their effectiveness.
  5. An interactive activity to help the class learn about your environmental issue.
  6. A knowledge quiz about your issue to see what the students have learned.

You will be assigned one of the following environmental issues:

  1. Desertification
  2. Water Scarcity
  3. Ocean Acidification
  4. Deforestation
  5. Human Overpopulation
  6. Habitat Fragmentation
  7. Overuse of Pesticides
  8. Loss of Biodiversity
  9. The Great Pacific Garbage Patch
  10. Soil Erosion (loss of fertile topsoil)
  11. Pollution (water, air, land)

Environmental Issues Student Lesson Groups

You will create an electronic presentation with your partner that you will then present to the class orally.  Remember that you should have LOTS OF PICTURES, DIAGRAMS, GRAPHS, DATA and INFOGRAPHICS, as well as a “Works Cited” page in MLA format.  You should NOT have extensive text on each slide, and you should make sure that you are presenting most of your information orally.  You should not be reading directly from notes.  Both partners must contribute equally to the presentation, including speaking for roughly the same amount of time and contributing to the interactive and quiz.  Please look at the rubric below in order to make sure that you are meeting all of the project requirements!
