Reverse Lecture: Carbohydrates & Lipids Review

Directions: Go through the information in the reverse lecture below reviewing some of what you have learned in terms of carbohydrates and lipids.  This is not a full revision for the upcoming test, but it covers some of the macromolecules that we have discussed in a little more depth.  Once you have finished the lecture, answer the questions that appear below.

Questions

  1. Describe the differences in structure between glycogen, cellulose and starch.  Include information about the type of monosaccharides that form each as well as the types of glycosidic bonds in all three.
  2. Explain what it means that cellulose is “not hydrolyzed easily”.
  3. Describe the difference between saturated and unsaturated fats.
  4. Draw diagrams of the following molecules: glucose, glycerol and a fatty acid.
